Women and Beauty.

What do you get when you throw a true beauty obsessive in Europe together with a veteran beauty journalist in LA? Not much room on the bathroom shelves, that’s for sure. Make-up, hair products, skincare, perfume, salons, spas, luxury hotels with toiletries and treatments that make us never want to go home – if we’ve left anything out, you can pry our mirrors from our cold, dead, perfectly manicured hands.

Cooking the French Way.

Chocolate & Zucchini is a blog written by Clotilde Dusoulier, a 27 year-old Parisian woman who lives in Montmartre and shares her passion for all things food-related here — thoughts, recipes, musings, cookbook acquisitions, quirky products, nifty tools, restaurant experiences, ideas, and inspirations.

The blog was created in September of 2003, as an outlet for someone who feared her friends might tire of having their ears bent about what she had cooked/eaten/baked/bought, although they didn’t seem to have a problem with being fed dinner. One thing led to another, a bit of media attention was received, articles were submitted to and published by newspapers and magazines, a book deal was signed, a dayjob was quit, and a new life as a full-time food writer began.

Innovative design.

Dan naamloosbu.gifLockton design

I would describe myself as a freelance innovator: I’m an industrial designer, engineer and writer with especial interest in consumer products, transportation, and the future of technology within the contexts of sustainability and economic influences. As such, I’m currently researching the concept and application of architectures of control in design (“How products increasingly control and restrict your behaviour”) with a view to producing a definitive study of their implications for technology and society.

My main venture at present is Incluminate [PDF link], a lighting backup system which I’m developing. I also do freelance design, business research and technical R&D work on a variety of projects, both professionally and speculatively; recent major clients include Tangerine and Wright Fenn.

Geoff Manaugh is a writer, grantwriter, would-be novelist, essayist, Archinect “team member” and the founding editor of BLDGBLOG.

In addition to (now rather distant) work with Foster and Partners, London, he holds a BA in cultural studies (UNC-Chapel Hill, ’97) and an MA in art & architectural history (UChicago, ’01)… even while he holds a cup of coffee. He won a small stipend to write his thesis in Berlin, but spent the money instead going to Tresor.
